The Secret Life of GypsyKate

A couple of things to share

Posted in Cricut, Other Sites, Silhouette, Silly, Toddlers, family, life in general, scrapbooking by Vicky on October 10, 2009

I have to share this wee video I took of Katie last night. she was trying to avoid going to bed by hiding under it. She can be so cute! I might note that it took another hour before she was in bed asleep lol.

the other thing is for all those that have Quickutz Silhouettes or Cricut’s this will be very handy and save you a lot of money on cutting mats.

I found a website that shows you how to make cutting mats for your electronic cutter, at the Quilling Patch there is an excellent tutorial on how to do it. Since I don’t really like using spray adhesive and it is kind of hard to get repositionable spray on adhesive  in my part of the country anyway, I found some glue at Spotlight that does the trick fantastically, its called Craft Smart Off “N On Glue and its so easy to use. I use a foam brush and simply brush it over the mat, leave it to dry for about 10 minutes and the mat is all sticky again. I am still looking for somewhere to get thin enough plastic sheets from so I can make a couple of mats so if anyone knows where I can get some please let me know.

I also used a thicker sheet of plastic, off an old clear file folder, and made a sticky mat that I use to hold small bits that I have cut using the Silhouette when I want to put glue on them or don’t want to use them straight away but don’t want to lose all the little bits. Its so handy!

give it a go and let me know how you get on. Now I have a mini book and a layout to finish so have a great weekend all. Hope the sun is shining at your place, it is here…but its still cold! Thanks for stopping by

Sassafrass ROCKS!

Guess what!!! I won the felties that I love so much from Sassafrass Lass, how cool is that? Feeling so lucky about now :) :) :)

after the weekend we have had its nice to have some good happen. We have been struck by dreaded lurgy!!! thanks to Katie, she must have brought it home from preschool, she came down with it on Wednesday afternoon, she was fine in the morning then all of a sudden she was complaining of a sore tummy and then vomiting, in the food court at Richmond Mall of all places. Poor wee girl. Of course something like that spreads like wild fire, so we all ended up with it in some form or another.

Mum and Dad went away on Thursday to see friends in the Sounds and took it with them lol…Mum had it and now Dad has got it but Katie has had it the worst and is still recovering, it really knocked her around. She is still pale and tired, poor wee girl. She has a hard winter this year health wise. Oh well spring isnt far away. then it will be spring cold time lol. Just cant win can we?

well I can lol….I won felties…YAY ME….still excited about that.

through all the illness over the weekend I did manage to get one layout completed, for the multi photo comp at Scrappin Patch it was due on the 31st so I had to get it completed since it was half done anyway and I hate leaving things half done. it was very simple but effective I think, not sure….you tell me

well that’s my news….I can hear Katie arguing with her Grandad, their favourite hobby, so they both must be feeling more like themselves lol. And I better go help Mum with dinner.

oh before I go, I am starting to do my planning for our Aussie trip and want tips for travelling with preschoolers, Katie will turn 4 while we are there so I need ideas. Has anyone been to NSW with their preschooler? what did they do to keep them busy while travelling, what sort of activities did they enjoy….you know…anything that worked for you while travelling either by plane or car as we will be doing a bit of both. Any helpful websites would be appreciated too. If there is one thing I do know about travelling with small fries, planning is essential.

have a happy new week everyone

How lucky am I?

Posted in Silly, Toddlers, family, life in general by Vicky on May 24, 2009

Just watching my crazy kids are cuddled up on the couch together watching may 002Playhouse Disney, its so cute….for those that don’t know, my kids are 3 and almost 17! lol, their so close these two and they never fail to make me smile when they play together like this. Katie just decided Steve looked far to comfortable so she climbed over him and then into his blanket with him lol.

How many 17 y.o boys do you know that would put up with being bossed around by a 3 y.o baby sister? he’s so patient.

Katie made her biggest brother nearly cry last night, I was talking to Jodi on the phone (he’s still living in Taranaki) and I put Katie on the phone, and she chatted away for a few minutes then said, “i got to go now dodi, I love you” when I got back on the phone he was having a wee sniff and said he wanted to come home lol. He has been gone for a year now but Katie knows exactly who he is, she often carries a photo of him around and tells us that its her dodi. :)

I wish he would come home but I know he cant, he’s got a bakers apprenticeship do to and he’s a big boy now…doesn’t mean I cant miss him though. He is coming home for a visit in September, that will good.

well my back is slowly getting better, I had another visit to the physio on Friday and that helped, so does having a spa bath every night. its still sore but not nearly as bad as it was, at least I can sit up now, that’s more than I could do a few days ago. And the kids are both healthy again though Katie just cant shake that barking cough, funnily enough Steve use to get a cough at the beginning of winter and it would last until spring, hope Katie isn’t going to be the same.

She has an appointment at the specialist to get her ears check next Wednesday, which just happens to be the day her preschool class is going to NatureLand, she misses out again, she missed out on the Christmas party because she was sick, and PJ day because it was on a day she wasn’t there and the teddy bears picnic because I was sick. poor girl…not that she even knows or cares lol, and she has been to NatureLand a number of times, I might just have to talk to my cousin and see if she wants to take the kids there in the weekend. Her kids are 10 month older and 10 months younger than Katie so they all play together really well.

anyway must be cup of tea time…I am hoping to get into my scrap room for a wee while today, I had this great idea for a multi photo layout which, if it works, i will share later.

look what’s going on now…may 006 Katie stole the blanket and climbed on the step ladder giggling her hear off and started teasing Steve with “I the king of da castle, you da dirty wascle” lol, crazy kid!! she has a real thing about ladders, anything she can climb. Dad was using the stepladder yesterday and she stole it as soon as he was finished and has been climbing up and down all morning. Maybe she will following in her Grandfathers footsteps and be a lineman or is that line person? lol

she is still only half dressed, she has informed me she wants to stay in her pjammies today lol…she does take after me! nothing like a nice comfy pair of pjammies and fluffy slippers on a cold morning! And here it is 11 am and I have done nothing! how lazy is that? oh well, its Sunday…no rush!

have a wonderful Sunday everyone

The little things

Posted in Toddlers, family, life in general, scrapbooking, venting by Vicky on May 15, 2009

I need a vent…..My mother is driving me nuts….she has been so naggy lately,  and interfering constantly. I know she’s stressed because of Dad being on crutches but honestly Mum…find another target!!! she keeps nagging me about doing this or that wrong with Katie, I dress her wrong, I don’t spend enough time with her, I spend to much time with her, I let her watch TV, then when I change the channel or turn it off I get nagged about not letting her watch her favourite programs!!!! I cant win!!! Yesterday I just about lost it…Katie fell and banged her chin, I dropped what I was doing and gave her cuddle and checked for injury (just a fright, no blood) when Mum calls her away from me to sit on her knee…I was so angry…its my job to comfort her and that’s what I was doing. Mum just had to interfere again! I know she only means well but honestly, I have brought up two kids already, I think I know what I am doing. You would swear by listening to Mum that I was a first time mother!!! I know what Katie needs and when…so Mum….Butt Out!!!!

Oh that feels better….sorry for the rant but I needed to get it out…I love my Mum and we are really close but sometimes….well even the closest people get feed up with each other sometimes!

Now talking about Katie…the kid is nuts lol….look at the photos I took yesterday

she was “helping” me make up some wee diecut dolls I got of Trademe a while ago and pulled out her wee magnifying glass (which use to live in my tool kit) and examined it in detail lol Needless to say I took a pile of photos and used them with the wee doll in a layout. You will have to wait to see that one ;)

shabby chic 001But I will show you this one, this is the one i did for Scrappin Patch shabby chic challenge, I don’t know if its really shabby chic but I like it. I don’t really know what Shabby Chic is, can anyone explain it to me?

Another thing I want to ask, does anyone out there know if its safe to use Beados on a layout? I got some for Katie and I to play with together but they are so cute I thought they would look great on a layout. I haven’t seen any used in scrapbooking but I figure if their safe for kids they must be acid free. what do you think?

anyway thanks for putting up with my ranting, sometimes you just gotta get it out there! we all have days like that dont we?

time to do something before I go pick up little miss mad girl from preschool.

have a happy day

Yay Yellow Team

Posted in Competitions, Other Sites, Toddlers, life in general by Vicky on April 20, 2009

Just watched the final of Mitre 10 Dream Home and gotta say I am so wrapped that the Yellow team won. Greymouth being my home town of sorts, I spent 8 years there before moving to New Plymouth in 02 and I think Te’ana was one of my very first students when I spent a few weeks teaching a youth class when I first started tutoring way back when.  I have been following them and voting for them right through with my fingers crossed. It must have been so hard for them all to wait those last few hours for the results to read out. Talk about stress.

It was funny watching the final and seeing so many people I knew, even during the series I saw a pile of people I knew. Greymouth is a very small place lol. With the blue team Dave went to school with my nephew and some of their helpers I knew, some of them I had taught at one time or another.

Anyway Congrads to both teams, most especially the Yellow Team. Way to go!!!

Now I am off for an early night, time for more painkillers, my back is killing me after running around on the sand at the playground in Tahuna with Katie this afternoon. She wore me out lol but she had a ball, except when 3 young girls told her to go away when she went to join them on the round a bout…I forgot how mean little girls can be.

night night all
