The Secret Life of GypsyKate

A couple of things to share

Posted in Cricut, Other Sites, Silhouette, Silly, Toddlers, family, life in general, scrapbooking by Vicky on October 10, 2009

I have to share this wee video I took of Katie last night. she was trying to avoid going to bed by hiding under it. She can be so cute! I might note that it took another hour before she was in bed asleep lol.

the other thing is for all those that have Quickutz Silhouettes or Cricut’s this will be very handy and save you a lot of money on cutting mats.

I found a website that shows you how to make cutting mats for your electronic cutter, at the Quilling Patch there is an excellent tutorial on how to do it. Since I don’t really like using spray adhesive and it is kind of hard to get repositionable spray on adhesive  in my part of the country anyway, I found some glue at Spotlight that does the trick fantastically, its called Craft Smart Off “N On Glue and its so easy to use. I use a foam brush and simply brush it over the mat, leave it to dry for about 10 minutes and the mat is all sticky again. I am still looking for somewhere to get thin enough plastic sheets from so I can make a couple of mats so if anyone knows where I can get some please let me know.

I also used a thicker sheet of plastic, off an old clear file folder, and made a sticky mat that I use to hold small bits that I have cut using the Silhouette when I want to put glue on them or don’t want to use them straight away but don’t want to lose all the little bits. Its so handy!

give it a go and let me know how you get on. Now I have a mini book and a layout to finish so have a great weekend all. Hope the sun is shining at your place, it is here…but its still cold! Thanks for stopping by

Sir Howard

Posted in Silhouette, family, life in general, scrapbooking by Vicky on September 29, 2009

So I am sitting here watching Good Morning and its all about Sir Howard Morrison, wow ok I am behind the times I didn’t even know he had passed. Such a lovely man and did so much for New Zealand. He will be missed. and he had such a lovely smile. My parents, as teenagers, use to go to parties with him when he was just starting out. So sad he’s gone.

Daylight savings has started again, cant work out why its a month early but it has upset my routine as it always does, but on the upside, Katie has slept in 2 mornings in a row.

so if with daylight savings comes summer why is it raining? I am over this spring rain. and I have to go out in it today, I have jobs to do in town, school holidays, the mall and rain, a mix I really don’t like!!! and while I am out today I have to get Katie some washable markers, she used one of my slick writers to colour in this morning, while sitting on my bed, on my white duvet cover and pillow. do I need to describe the result? I like purple, I really do, but not scribbled over my favourite bed set. I was half asleep at the time so didn’t really realise what she was doing until it was to late. Definitely need washable markers, shes made on colouring and drawing and there is no stopping her drawing anywhere and everywhere, so might as well do it with something I can wash away afterwards.

So I am loving my new Silhouette SD, I have spent the weekend collecting new cut files and playing. It is amazing, I can cut anything and some very funky files are out there. I am still working on how to make some manish embellishments, Jodi has been helping. He’s always been an artist and has come up with some great ideas. Its so good having him home.

When I haven’t been playing we have been out and about showing Tracey all around Nelson. Its been fun. and on Saturday Katie and I went to Chipmunks to my cousins wee girls birthday party. it was fun, I have never been there before and Katie had a ball. She was one tired wee girl by the time we got home, after a quick trip to the beach to show Tracey. Just as well I got Katie some shorts and a tshirt before we went to the beach, I would have hated her purple fairy dress she wore to the party to get all wet and sandy. of course she had to play in the waves lol.

anyway time I was moving. things to do before I brave town. have a good and hopefully dry day where you are

Its gone

Posted in Cricut, Silhouette, Wishblade, life in general, scrapbooking by Vicky on September 13, 2009

Well the first step has been taken, I sold my Cricut and its packed up and gone to live up north. So now I just need to find a replacement, I am still tossing up between the Silhouette or the Wishblade. There’s a Silhouette on trademe at the moment that I have my eye on. It closes tonight so will see how that goes. I also have the lovely ladies at Scrappin Patch on the look out for me, and have emailed the man at Hastings Rubber Stamps about the Wishblade. I have definitely done my research. The Silhouette has the advantage of being able to take an SD card and electronic feed but the Wishblade can take any pen and is cheaper.

Of course it all depends on which one I can get hold of easiest and how soon. I don’t want to be without a cutter to long, I still have another project to get done before our trip. Not to mention I have a big empty gap in my scrapbook room, not that it wont get filled with junk pretty quick lol.

anyway, its Sunday morning, I have been up since about 7am and I feel tired already. I have been so tired lately, I was in bed at 8.30 last night and woke up still feeling tired. I don’t know what’s wrong with me at the moment, I have no energy at all. I have to force myself to get moving. Right now I am still in my PJ’s and have barely moved all morning. If this keeps up I might have to go visit the Doctor again. A couple of weeks ago I was full of energy, but now I am just tired.

well this isn’t getting anything done. Enjoy your Sunday everyone, hope the sun is shining at your place.

Playing tourist

Posted in Challeges, family, life in general by Vicky on September 5, 2009

On Thursday, since it was mid-term break and a nice day, We played tourists in our own town. I loaded up the kids, the camera and a couple of warm tops just in case and we went into town (Nelson) and climbed these stepssept 002, not a major right? well considering less than 6 weeks ago I was on crutches and could barely walk I am proud to say that it took me less then 5 minutes to reach the top, Yay me! It felt so good too.

It was a really fun afternoon, we walked around taking photos and playing hide and seek with Katie in the gardens and just relaxing in the sunshine. it was really lovely, the flowers are starting to bloom and its been many mansept 031y years since I have been up to the Cathedral, we took some great photos, I really love this one of Katie and Steve playing hide and seek around a tree, I don’t know who was having the most fun lol. Steve is so good with Katie and truly adores her almost as much as she adores him.

After our trip up the steps and through the gardens we went for a bit of a walk around town but Katie had worn her wee legs out so we headed back to the car and made a quick trip to the warehouse before heading home. It was a good afternoon.

Katie is pining for her grandparents now, they have been gone for over a week and last night she was sobbing her wee heart out wanting her Nanny. Poor baby, its hard to explain to her how long they will be away, 3 months is forever in a wee girls life. All I can do is cuddle her and promise that she can talk to Nanny next time she rings and try and distract her. Last night she ended up sleeping with me because she was so upset. I am so glad that they have decided to make this whitebait season their last one. They are selling their batch down in Haast and staying home next year.

anyway its almost 10am and the housework wont do itself, unfortunately. oh need to share my latest creations. Steve gave me some time out yesterday to do a bit of scrapbooking, isnt he just the best 17 year old ever???layouts 002 The first is for

layouts 004

anyways enjoy your weekend, hope its sunny at your place

A Rak and A Bargain

Posted in Challeges, Cricut, family, life in general, scrapbooking, shopping by Vicky on September 2, 2009

walking 016_edited-1Monday afternoon Katie and I walked down to meet Steve from the bus, enjoying the break in the rain and the spring sun such as it was. we were nearly there when we were stopped by a lady backing out her driveway. She stopped and asked me if Katie would like a stuffed toy she was holding. She had just won it but didn’t want it so gave it to Katie. How kind was that? talk about a very random act of kindness. And this funky wee bumble bee has become a favourite already! She even took it to preschool yesterday and the teacher tells me she didn’t let it go the whole time she was there lol. She flies it around the house and the bee “collects honey” from everyone and from everything lol

We really enjoyed our walk, we left the car in the car park about half a km from the bus stop and got caught in the rain on the way back (and Steve moaned the whole way lol) but it was great to get out into the fresh air just because it was there. Mental note to self…Go and pick up Steve more often.

Yesterday while Katie was at preschool I went into town and of course had to go to Spotlight were I got a real bargain. They had these bags of all sorts for $10. In it was a Xyron tape runner (the big ones that are worth about $20) a set of Heidi Grace stamps, lots of photo corners, a set of Bella brads, some scrapbook PP, beads, some wool stuff that I have no idea what to do with and some other little bits and pieces. How amazing is that, what a bargain, and stupid me only picked up one bag, I should of got several of them, They had a few of these random bags full of end of the line type things. Really amazing bargains so go check out your local Spotlight and see if they have them, very worth the trip.

After my trip to Spotlight I did something I never get much of a chance to do and wandered around town and window shopped. It was fun just to look in all the windows and see all the new spring colours. I did buy myself a new shirt and a pretty cardigan from Millers. But I wasn’t actually in shopping mode.

Then I got back to my car and it wouldn’t start. I only had 20 minutes before I had to pick up Katie so needless to say I went into a wee panic. I rang AA, it only took them 15 minutes from the time I rung until a lovely man was there. It was only a lose battery terminal that took him all of two minutes to fix. I blame Dad, he fitted a new battery for me a couple of weeks ago and didn’t fit the terminals properly lol. So I was only 10 minutes late picking up Katie and I had rung them so it wasn’t a major.

By the time we did the grocery shopping and got home it was pouring down of course, unloading the car in the rain is so much fun, NOT! lol

anyway that was the beginning of my week, I better get the housework done because I want to do a bit of scrapping today. Steve is home with a bit of a cold, I think he just couldn’t be bothered going to school, I think he is a bit sick of school but he is still going back for year 13 next year. and I have the snuffles so its going to be a quiet day I think. I cant be bothered doing anything but I want to make a start on the Sketchbook Spring it on challenge and the Scrappin Patch recipe challenge

anyways enjoy the 2nd day of spring
