The Secret Life of GypsyKate

Playing tourist

Posted in Challeges, family, life in general by Vicky on September 5, 2009

On Thursday, since it was mid-term break and a nice day, We played tourists in our own town. I loaded up the kids, the camera and a couple of warm tops just in case and we went into town (Nelson) and climbed these stepssept 002, not a major right? well considering less than 6 weeks ago I was on crutches and could barely walk I am proud to say that it took me less then 5 minutes to reach the top, Yay me! It felt so good too.

It was a really fun afternoon, we walked around taking photos and playing hide and seek with Katie in the gardens and just relaxing in the sunshine. it was really lovely, the flowers are starting to bloom and its been many mansept 031y years since I have been up to the Cathedral, we took some great photos, I really love this one of Katie and Steve playing hide and seek around a tree, I don’t know who was having the most fun lol. Steve is so good with Katie and truly adores her almost as much as she adores him.

After our trip up the steps and through the gardens we went for a bit of a walk around town but Katie had worn her wee legs out so we headed back to the car and made a quick trip to the warehouse before heading home. It was a good afternoon.

Katie is pining for her grandparents now, they have been gone for over a week and last night she was sobbing her wee heart out wanting her Nanny. Poor baby, its hard to explain to her how long they will be away, 3 months is forever in a wee girls life. All I can do is cuddle her and promise that she can talk to Nanny next time she rings and try and distract her. Last night she ended up sleeping with me because she was so upset. I am so glad that they have decided to make this whitebait season their last one. They are selling their batch down in Haast and staying home next year.

anyway its almost 10am and the housework wont do itself, unfortunately. oh need to share my latest creations. Steve gave me some time out yesterday to do a bit of scrapbooking, isnt he just the best 17 year old ever???layouts 002 The first is for

the first Sketchbook Spring it on challenge and the second for the Scrappin Patch recipe challenge. I used a template from Scrapbooking Etc website, first time I have ever tried using one and I really love the effect, even if it took a bit of time to get the photos position.

anyways enjoy your weekend, hope its sunny at your place

A Rak and A Bargain

Posted in Challeges, Cricut, family, life in general, scrapbooking, shopping by Vicky on September 2, 2009

walking 016_edited-1Monday afternoon Katie and I walked down to meet Steve from the bus, enjoying the break in the rain and the spring sun such as it was. we were nearly there when we were stopped by a lady backing out her driveway. She stopped and asked me if Katie would like a stuffed toy she was holding. She had just won it but didn’t want it so gave it to Katie. How kind was that? talk about a very random act of kindness. And this funky wee bumble bee has become a favourite already! She even took it to preschool yesterday and the teacher tells me she didn’t let it go the whole time she was there lol. She flies it around the house and the bee “collects honey” from everyone and from everything lol

We really enjoyed our walk, we left the car in the car park about half a km from the bus stop and got caught in the rain on the way back (and Steve moaned the whole way lol) but it was great to get out into the fresh air just because it was there. Mental note to self…Go and pick up Steve more often.

Yesterday while Katie was at preschool I went into town and of course had to go to Spotlight were I got a real bargain. They had these bags of all sorts for $10. In it was a Xyron tape runner (the big ones that are worth about $20) a set of Heidi Grace stamps, lots of photo corners, a set of Bella brads, some scrapbook PP, beads, some wool stuff that I have no idea what to do with and some other little bits and pieces. How amazing is that, what a bargain, and stupid me only picked up one bag, I should of got several of them, They had a few of these random bags full of end of the line type things. Really amazing bargains so go check out your local Spotlight and see if they have them, very worth the trip.

After my trip to Spotlight I did something I never get much of a chance to do and wandered around town and window shopped. It was fun just to look in all the windows and see all the new spring colours. I did buy myself a new shirt and a pretty cardigan from Millers. But I wasn’t actually in shopping mode.

Then I got back to my car and it wouldn’t start. I only had 20 minutes before I had to pick up Katie so needless to say I went into a wee panic. I rang AA, it only took them 15 minutes from the time I rung until a lovely man was there. It was only a lose battery terminal that took him all of two minutes to fix. I blame Dad, he fitted a new battery for me a couple of weeks ago and didn’t fit the terminals properly lol. So I was only 10 minutes late picking up Katie and I had rung them so it wasn’t a major.

By the time we did the grocery shopping and got home it was pouring down of course, unloading the car in the rain is so much fun, NOT! lol

anyway that was the beginning of my week, I better get the housework done because I want to do a bit of scrapping today. Steve is home with a bit of a cold, I think he just couldn’t be bothered going to school, I think he is a bit sick of school but he is still going back for year 13 next year. and I have the snuffles so its going to be a quiet day I think. I cant be bothered doing anything but I want to make a start on the Sketchbook Spring it on challenge and the Scrappin Patch recipe challenge

anyways enjoy the 2nd day of spring

One of those days

Posted in Challeges, life in general by Vicky on August 30, 2009

Its been raining all day and I have had one of those days where its just ho hum! I did do two layouts for Scrappin Patch this morning, in an hour which has got to be small miracle for me, I tend to take my time and can never just churn them out like that.  The first one is for the Designer Choices and the second for

the Colour Challenge.

so besides that, I have watched a DVD,  played with Katie and done housework. Apart from that…nothing! It’s been a day of rain, rain, rain…it must be spring!

Sassafrass ROCKS!

Guess what!!! I won the felties that I love so much from Sassafrass Lass, how cool is that? Feeling so lucky about now :) :) :)

after the weekend we have had its nice to have some good happen. We have been struck by dreaded lurgy!!! thanks to Katie, she must have brought it home from preschool, she came down with it on Wednesday afternoon, she was fine in the morning then all of a sudden she was complaining of a sore tummy and then vomiting, in the food court at Richmond Mall of all places. Poor wee girl. Of course something like that spreads like wild fire, so we all ended up with it in some form or another.

Mum and Dad went away on Thursday to see friends in the Sounds and took it with them lol…Mum had it and now Dad has got it but Katie has had it the worst and is still recovering, it really knocked her around. She is still pale and tired, poor wee girl. She has a hard winter this year health wise. Oh well spring isnt far away. then it will be spring cold time lol. Just cant win can we?

well I can lol….I won felties…YAY ME….still excited about that.

through all the illness over the weekend I did manage to get one layout completed, for the multi photo comp at Scrappin Patch it was due on the 31st so I had to get it completed since it was half done anyway and I hate leaving things half done. it was very simple but effective I think, not sure….you tell me

well that’s my news….I can hear Katie arguing with her Grandad, their favourite hobby, so they both must be feeling more like themselves lol. And I better go help Mum with dinner.

oh before I go, I am starting to do my planning for our Aussie trip and want tips for travelling with preschoolers, Katie will turn 4 while we are there so I need ideas. Has anyone been to NSW with their preschooler? what did they do to keep them busy while travelling, what sort of activities did they enjoy….you know…anything that worked for you while travelling either by plane or car as we will be doing a bit of both. Any helpful websites would be appreciated too. If there is one thing I do know about travelling with small fries, planning is essential.

have a happy new week everyone

Cold creation

Posted in Challeges, Competitions, life in general, scrapbooking by Vicky on July 12, 2009

I have a cold but that hasn’t stopped me being creative today. Sitting on the couch by the fire with all my bits around me I managed to complete two layouts. The tray table Steve brought me for Christmas came in very handy.

the first layout was for the recipe challenge on Scrappin Patch , had to use brads, chipboard title, at least 1 photo and rub ons. It took me ages, mainly layouts 001because I decided to use loopy brads and lace ribbon through them and that took forever, what a fiddly job. It came out good though and another layout to fill in the latest album.

I love the photos in this one, the first time Katie worked out how to open the Playhouse Disney website. I created a shortcut for her on my browser and she worked out how to open it without any help at all. Definitely her Mummy’s wee girl, a real geek lol. I found her happily moving the mouse around. Took a wee bit to teach her how to click the mouse in the right place but now she knows that trick there’s no stopping her.

the second layout I haven’t taken a photo of yet. I finished it about half an hour ago and it was to dark by then. It was just for fun this one though. I do that now and again, just do a spur of the moment layout just cos everything is out.

layouts 003I did this one the day before last of wee Harmony for the Sketchbook countdown challenge that Hannah set.  we had to use 4 embellishments in a cluster, 3 photos, 2 words in the title and one journaling tag or spot.

I just love these photos of Harmony, she’s such a cutie!

I even made a card yesterday for my sis in law in Aussie who has been really card 001sick and needed cheering up, she’s just been told she’s not allowed to go back to work for at 6 months after a really serious lung and chest infection.

not the best of photos but here’s hoping it cheers her up a little. She hates not working, she’s a teacher and specialises in special needs and loves her job.

well I had a few surprise wins last week, both from Scrappin Patch challenges.

I won the Baz Challenge that finished at the end of June and the designers choice challenge that Annelie set a few weeks ago. these are the layouts. Both

scrappin patch lo 005

of them completely different from my njuly 007ormal style.

I am really enjoying stepping out of my comfort zone lately and trying something new. and I have to say my favourite is the Baz one, it was inspired by a page in one of Katie’s colouring in books. It was an awful lot of paper piecing and fiddling but well worth it.

Now I need to go and get Katie ready for bed and try and convince her to have some cough mixture. She started this particular round of illness. This has to be the worst winter for colds and flu’s we have ever had in this family, seems we just get over one and another one hits. Katie only went back to preschool 2 weeks ago after the last lot and now she has to have a few days off again. Anyway time to go. Night night all
