The Secret Life of GypsyKate

One of those days

Posted in Challeges, life in general by Vicky on August 30, 2009

Its been raining all day and I have had one of those days where its just ho hum! I did do two layouts for Scrappin Patch this morning, in an hour which has got to be small miracle for me, I tend to take my time and can never just churn them out like that.  The first one is for the Designer Choices and the second for

the Colour Challenge.

so besides that, I have watched a DVD,  played with Katie and done housework. Apart from that…nothing! It’s been a day of rain, rain, rain…it must be spring!

We are going to Australia on the 15th December!!!!! Yah, got Katie’s passport yesterday and booked the tickets this morning. It will be a long trip, we dont get back until the 12th Jan. Nearly a month of lazing by my brothers pool and spending some fun family time. Can’t wait!!!!

And I only have one project to go for nephew, done all the others for nieces and nephew. Once I started it was kind of hard to stop lol. But I have taken a few days off while I wait for some stuff from trademe and clean up the mess in my scraproom. Plus Mum and Dad left yesterday so I dont have as much time as they normally watch Katie for me if I am scrapbooking. And Katie is still a bit upset that two of her favourite people aren’t home. She gets a bit grumpy when she hasnt got Gandad to play with and Nan to cuddle.

But she will be fine and hopefully I will squeeze in a bit of me time over the weekend.

I took a major step yesterday, I listed my Cricut Expression on Trademe so I can buy a Wishblade or Silhouette. I just decided I could get a lot more use out of something I could control using my computer as I am a total geek. So if you are after a Cricut go and buy mine lol. I will post if needed.

And talking of geeks, my wee darling daughter is rapidly becoming one.  She keeps stealing my laptop to play on the Playhouse Disney website. She has got very good at playing the games and navigating the site. She sometimes goes to the Bo on the Go website but thats the only places she goes which is good. though she did manage to delete my entire inbox the other day!! I have since managed to lock her out of there.

Seriously thinking of rebuilding one of my old desktop computers for her. She is very clever and if it will help her learn. I have two old computers that I could rebuild into one good one for her.

Spoilt? My daughter? well yea just a little lol.

time I got moving and finished the housework.

have a great day all

Bitter Sweet

august 001My daffodils have started to bloom, I planted about 50 in pots as a memorial. I love daffodils  but whenever they bloom its bittersweet for me. The first flower Chris ever gave me was a daffodil the day we met, on Daffodil Day 2002 and the last flower he ever gave me was the same, the day before he died exactly 2 years later. Even though its been 5 years I still find this last week of August the hardest of the year. Its something I don’t share with my family, I don’t think they fully understand and for the boys, well they haven’t forgotten but they don’t need to be reminded how quickly our life turned from wonderful to tragedy. Chris may not of been their Dad but he was pretty close to it. It’s so strange how 2 short years can change your entire life.

Any way this year I refuse to get depressed, I will pull out the first scrapbook I ever made, dedicated to all the happy times we packed into those two years and I will smile at all Chris’s crazy antics, he was known for being totally spontaneous and slightly crazy lol and so much fun. I always try to remember him that way.

on other news. Mum and Dad went to Haast yesterday, and came home about an hour later lol. They had a slight mishap that could have been really bad. They lost a wheel on the boat trailer and sheared all the bolts off the hub. They were so lucky they weren’t in a serious accident. Luckily they were only about 10 Km’s from home and could call AA to pick up the boat and trailer. So now they wont be leaving until tomorrow.

So besides that little bit of excitement all is quiet around here. I still have a cold, its settled into a nice body shaking cough now and Katie is mostly recovered though she is still pale and got a runny nose so I have kept her home from preschool until she fully recovers.

I am really happy to report that I have completed 2 of the 4 secret projects I have been working on for nieces and nephews for xmas. the girls ones are finished and I have made a good start on one of the boys ones. The boys ones will be a bit harder but definitely more flexible as I am using a 6×6 format for them instead of a ready made ummm project (those who scrapbook will get an idea of what I mean) I wonder if I can lock nieces and nephews out of my blog so I can show you the projects, I am so please on how they came out. But I don’t know how to do that, so I will just have to share after Christmas.

anyway madam wants more toast.

have a good day all

would you?

Posted in scrapbooking by Vicky on August 22, 2009

I thought I would get organised early and get Katie some togs to take to Aussie, well summer does look like its coming early and this is a girl that will start swimming as soon as its warm enough.

so on to trademe I went, as you do, and since by the end of summer she was squeezing into her very cute Hello Kitty tankini like this one, I thought perhaps a size 8 might  be necessary to get the whole summer out of it. Yes I know, she’s not even 4 yet but she is very big for her age and is in a size 6/7 in everything else. So take a look at what I have found, now I am not pointing fingers at traders or anything, this trader is not the only one to have this sort of thing, but I so would not put my daughter in this, not even if she was 8, in fact she would be pushing it if she was 15.

I know my brother would never allow his almost 15 year old daughter to wear it. And this sort of teeny wenny bikini seems to be the norm!!! no Disney princesses or hello kitty for those over size 7 it seems. Luckily there are some more respectable ones, the same trader who has the brown bikini had this cute green one, much more appropriate …I am just shocked that anyone would think of putting their innocent wee girls in something like the brown one…am I a prude? OMG I hope not!!!! I would just rather see little girls stay that way for as long as they can.

And that’s my wee rant for a Saturday morning…now I have a cold so I am off for a sneeze and a tissue lol…ohhh and a hot cuppa.

Quote

Lyn from the Scrapbook Store is always leaving inspirational quotes on her blog so I thought I would join in the game…with a twist…this quote is from my favourite show, Torchwood, but I thought it was suitable for scrapbookers too.

“Trust me, I’m an improviser.” – Owen Harper, Torchwood

Can I help it if I am a Torchwood fanatic???? well probably but I don’t want to lol.

K going back to moaning to Mum about my cold now…not that she’s listening but I like to moan lol
