The Secret Life of GypsyKate

fairy notice board

Posted in scrapbooking by Vicky on May 31, 2008

after getting this idea from MaramaDaisy’s blog, I spent all afternoon making this cool notice board  for Katie’s room. A word of advice if your going to make one, make sure you line up the ribbon lattice first and sew the buttons through the wadding etc before sticking the wadding down to the board otherwise the buttons are REALLY hard to sew on lol.

noticeboard

I used a thin 5 OZ painting canvas from the Warehouse ($14 for 2)for the backing but you could use heavy card. The material is from spotlight of course ($3 a meter..Bargin! lol) about meter and a half depends on material width ( Katie picked out the fairies lol. I used a mix of ribbons that I had on hand so not sure how many meters you would need, I am geussing about 5 or 6 meters. I brought a meter of wadding but only needed about half a meter (plenty left over for another one.) and a dozen or so buttons.

I added a bit of bling since Katie loves bling (she ummmm helped if you can call it that) and real mix of buttons featuring her favourite things (apples, hearts, cats etc) it was fun to make. Now I need to do one for Steve’s room….these things are fun to make.

bling

Steve’s picked out comicbook hero type material for his. Will have to pick some up on Monday when I go into town.

Katie and Steve have really bad colds and are miserable but Katie is still so funny…she runs over and grabs a tissue from the box and does this big sneeze lead up aaahh aaaahhh aaaaahhhh then holds the tissue up to her nose and lets out a totally fake sneeze lol…..its a crack up

time for tea…Have a good Queen’s Bday weekend

Sorry Julia

sorry Julia and anyone else that i was mean to in my last post…I didnt mean to upset anyone with my comments…just having a moan…do you ever get disenchanted with how small NZ’s scrapbook world is? seems we are always the last to get the new products and yet kiwi scrapbookers on a whole are very inventive.  Maybe thats why…we need to be.

talking of inventive…i dragged a few old techniques out of the closet tonight…literally….dragged my old MM coloured staples from the back of the cupboard….wow nearly got lost doing it…what a mess in there lol…and tried a few new things with them….grunged up a layout for the teens….and pondered how to go about developing my own line of products for that age group….my boys dont suit the style for teens out at the moment…I mean I couldnt imagine scrapbooking a picture of Jodi with all his tattoos and peircings with most of even the funky stuff out now….hes to hard rock for that! and though Steve isnt as hardline as Jodi hes by no means soft and has his own peircing (both boys have tongues done, Jodi also has a nipple and just above his chin and I am not asking where else lol. he also has about half a dozen tattoos). though I have to admit the cratepaper pp i used tonight was kinda cool…its from the Static collection (http://www.crateandpaper.citymax.com/staticpreview.html) and came in this months SBO kit which arrived last week and sort of suited the photos. Will post the layout when I have finished it.

I wonder how someone goes about starting their own scrapbooking line? How did Heidi Swapp do it…or Elsie (my hero) Flannigan….is it even possible to do in little ol NZ….I have the ideas….just need to know how to put them out there….sigh…it’ll never happen…but its nice to dream….and talking about which….time I went to check little lady (shes sleeping her big girl bed for the first time tonight Omg…shes growing up! *tear*) and go off to my bed….night all

ps…thanks for sending me the message Julia, I’m really sorry, I do love Scrapbox and not just because its local…I’m also still in shock that someone actually reads my blog…didnt think anyone did….kind of use to talking to myself lol….

I want my grungeboard…

Posted in scrapbooking by Vicky on May 26, 2008

its been almost 3 weeks since i put the order in with SBO and I know Andrea has been in hospital and they have a big back load of orders but i want my grungeboard NOW!!!! I have been patient enough I feel…..I am sorry Andrea has been sick…I know how aweful to be really sick but she does have her sister and others helping her and a little communication isnt to much to ask is it?

and with Scrapbook Essential closing down at the end of the week online shopping choices are getting slimmer all the time. Might have to start looking futher afield and take up Shane and Trays offer to send things over from Aussie.

Even scrapbox has gone down hill lately. I havent even looked there much because they havent had anything exciting for ages….and they dont have grungeboard……

I WANT MY GRUNGEBOARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Swing – Gypsykate – May Comp, originally uploaded by gypsykate.

this months entry into the SBO monthly competition. I’ve only entered a couple of comps on the SBO website but I have started to spend a bit of time on the forum there. very friendly people. I’ve tried to upload it to SBO but I cant find the right folder so am waiting to hear from one of the mods to help.

well some sad news today. My parents wee dog Tor had to be put down this morning. He was 15 years old and had a bad heart and could hardly breath poor thing. Its upset all of us, he was part of the family, all my neices and nephews and my kids grew up with him and he was Katies best friend, she learnt to walk holding onto him. He was a beautiful wee dog and we are going to miss him heaps but it was horrible watching him suffer so he is in a better place now, doggie heaven. the house seems a little empty without him getting under our feet or scratching on the door to be let out. Dad is really upset, Tor went everywhere with him.
